Plagued by civil war at the beginning of this century, Liberia and Sierra Leone have since blossomed into fantastic tourist destinations. Pristine beaches, rare wildlife, and friendly locals are just a few unforgettable aspects of these small but stunning West African countries.

Itinerary

  1. Day One, Mar 7 2027

    Arrival in Monrovia

    • Arrive at Monrovia Roberts International Airport and take a taxi to the hotel.

    There are no arranged activities today, so you are free to spend the day at leisure.

    This evening, your tour leader will arrange a welcome dinner where you will also meet your fellow travellers.

    Overnight in Monrovia.

  2. Day Two, Mar 8 2027

    Walking tour of Monrovia

    After breakfast, we will take a walking tour of Monrovia, visiting the National Museum, Presidential Palace and Pavilion, Unification Park and more.

    We will stop for lunch in the Embassy District, before returning to the hotel in the late afternoon.

    Overnight in Monrovia.

  3. Day Three, Mar 9 2027

    Journey to Robertsport

    Today we will travel north to Robertsport, a coastal town previously settled by African American slaves. The town later became home to an Allied airbase during World War 2, where remnants still remain.

    Upon arrival, we’ll check into the hotel and the afternoon is free to enjoy at leisure, for those interested, there is an option to take a short hike to the abandoned ghostship.

  4. Day Four, Mar 10 2027

    Robertsport Walking Tour

    This morning, we will take a walking tour of Robertsport, visiting local churches and schools and passing through the town before ending at the harbour.

    We will return to our lodge for lunch.

    This afternoon is yours to spend at leisure, for those interested, there is the option to take surf lessons.

    Overnight in Robertsport.

  5. Day Five, Mar 11 2027

    Crossing the Liberian Border

    After breakfast, we will depart Robertsport and head to the Sierra Leone Border.

    After crossing the border, we will continue our journey to Tiwai Island Wildlife Sanctuary, a community-run conservation project located on the Moa River.

    On arrival, we will enjoy locally prepared meals cooked by community members.

    This afternoon, there is the option to take a river cruise, or a nature walk around the island.

    Tiwai is renowned for its biodiversity, and we will have opportunities to spot wildlife and bird species.

  6. Day Six, Mar 12 2027

    Bo – Heart of the Diamond Mining Industry 

    Before breakfast, we will take a morning hike through the forest.

    After breakfast, we will travel to Bo, Sierra Leone’s second-largest city and on the way, we will stop at a small mining village, where we will get to see firsthand how artisanal mining is done.

    This afternoon, we will take a short tour of Bo.

    Overnight in Bo.

  7. Day Seven, Mar 13 2027

    York

    This morning we will meet with the team from Street Child, a charity organisation working to ensure every child has access to an education. The team will take us to one of their local projects in the area where we will have time to meet children and families who have benefited from their work.

    After, we will travel to York, where we will have the afternoon at leisure.

    Overnight in York. 

  8. Day Eight, Mar 14 2027

    Banana Island

    After breakfast, we will take a boat ride to the Banana Islands, an island group initially inhabited by the Portuguese and later by freed slaves.

    You will have time to explore the island, enjoy the beaches and learn about its past before we return to York in the afternoon.

    The rest of the day is free to spend at leisure.

  9. Day Nine, Mar 15 2027

    Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary

    This morning, we will travel to Freetown, stopping en route to visit the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary.

    • The sanctuary plays a vital role in rehabilitating rescued and orphaned chimpanzees while promoting conservation and environmental education.

    After lunch, you will have the afternoon to relax and explore more of Freetown and for those interested, it may be possible to organise a visit to see the National Dance Troup (not included).

  10. Day Ten, Mar 16 2027

    Tour of Freetown

    Today we will take a tour of the city, visiting the local market, war memorial and St George’s Cathedral and more.

    Tonight, we will head out for our final farewell dinner.

  11. Day Eleven, Mar 17 2027

    Tour Ends

    Today, the main tour ends and you can depart for home or continue your travels through West Africa.
