Mali Highlights Tour

Our itinerary is planned as follows, but if the security situation allows then we will replace Siby with a visit to Dogon Country.

1 Arrival to Bamako

Arrive into Bamako where you will be met at the airport by our driver who will transfer you to the hotel.

2 Mudpainting workshops

In the morning we will depart for Segou. On arrival we will visit a mud-painting clothes workshop and various colonial buildings before moving on to Segou Koro, a village and former residence of Bambara kings located on the banks of the Niger River. From here we will take a boat trip to Kalabougou to see women making pottery. After production the pottery is transported by dugout canoe to the Segou market. Return to Segou later where we will stay overnight.

3 The melting pot of Mali

After breakfast, we drive north to Mopti which is known as “the melting pot of Mali”. Here we will
visit the Komoguel Mosque, the fishing port to see pirogues being made by hand, and the bustling
market where many of Mali's ethnic groups come to trade. Overnight in Mopti.

4 UNESCO site of Djenne

Today we depart for Djenne, the twin sister of Timbuktu and a UNESCO World Heritage site. On arrival
to Djenne we will visit the Grand Mosque; the world's largest mud brick structure. We will also see
the ancient manuscripts library, Koranic schools, Tapama’s Tomb, and the secret well of Nana
Wangara. We return to Segou later with a stop en route to visit the mud mosque of San.

5 Return to Bamako

Today we return to Bamako where we will take a tour of the city. We will view the colonial buildings, visit the
national museum, the craft market and Point-G where we get a great view over Bamako.

6 The Mandingo Kingdom

Today we drive to Siby to visit the waterfalls and Arch of Kamajan. Here we will learn about the
Mandingo Kingdom and camp overnight.

7 Bamako tour

Today we take a tour of Bamako, where we will view the colonial buildings, the national museum, the craft market and Point-G where we get a great view over Bamako.

Afterwards you will be transferred to the airport for your flight home or for those of you joining our Guinea/Guinea Bissau extension, we will stay one more night in Bamako.
