Tour itinerary can be seen below.
Arrive into Nouakchott and then make your way to the hotel. Overnight in Nouakchott.
After breakfast we will head out for the day where we will visit the camel market and watch as the fishermen come in at Port du Peche. Overnight in Nouakchott.
Today we will depart on the long drive to the desert oasis at Ouadane (9-10 hours approx). We'll pass through many checkpoints on route before stopping for a late lunch in a basic local eatery in Atar. After lunch we'll head on to visit the Oasis, then we will stay overnight in a basic guesthouse in Ouadane.
This morning we head to the incredible Eye of the Sahara, believed by some to be the location of Atlantis. We then head on to Chinguetti, a formal medieval trading centre, where we will spend the night in a guesthouse.
We'll drive west towards the town of Choum and from here wait to board the incredible Iron Ore train. These trains come through 3 times a day, however, the timings are not always predictable and we may have to wait as not all trains will stop. Once we board the train, it is around a 13 hour journey to the coast.
Once the train pulls into the city of Nouadiboh, our drivers will collect us. We will then visit the last couple of remaining ship wrecks in the city, although most of these have now been cleared away, before having some much needed time to rest after the train journey.
Today we head to the West Saharan border where we will exit Mauritania and be stamped in by Moroccan border guards. We leave our Mauritanian drivers and guide here before travelling the 4-5 hours by road to Dakhla.
Today we take a tour around Dakhla visiting the famous white dunes and stopping for lunch in a local seafood restaurant. We'll make a few stops at the many beaches and cliffs in the area to take in the vista of the lagoon and the Atlantic. In the afternoon we'll head back to the city for a farewell dinner.
Head to the airport to catch our flights home.
