Building upon our Algeria Highlights Tour, which takes in the cultural and historical sites of Algiers, Constantine and Djemila, our Hiking The Atlas Tour adds additional hiking through the rarely-visited Djurdjura National Park and a chance to ascend Djebel Chelia, Algeria’s second-highest mountain. This tour involves moderately difficult hiking on small, rough paths that will vary in quality. Gradients will at times be steep.
View Algeria Hiking toursAlgeria’s rich melting pot of history and culture awaits. From the museums, monuments and UNESCO World Heritage sites of Algiers to the spectacular gorges of Constantine and the incredibly well preserved Roman wonders of Djemila. Experience a taste of Kabylian Berber life in Assouel and learn about the ecosystem, flora and fauna of the region at the Winfred Muller Nature Museum in the Djurdjura National Park.
The tour’s hiking traverses the Djurdjura National Park from north to south, taking in pine tree forests, rugged peaks and Alpine Lake Agoulmim, with potential to see Barbary macaques in their natural environment. Meanwhile, a hike to the summit of Djebel Chelia (2,328 metres above sea level), will take you to the heart of the country’s Independence Movement.
