Along a stretch of coastal West Africa, looking out to the Atlantic Ocean, sits Guinea and Guinea-Bissau (not to be confused with Equatorial Guinea), two neighbouring countries rich in wildlife, cultural immersion and idyllic island life. Remnants of a Portuguese colonial past await in Guinea-Bissau, whilst Guinea’s history of resistance, music and civil rights plays out across cultural sites and museums.

Our nine day tour of the two countries begins in Conakry, the capital of Guinea, where we’ll tour the city’s impressive religious buildings and bustling fishing port before taking in the historical islands of Fotoba and Karsa by boat. Journeying through the country’s mountainous heartland to Dalaba, we’ll visit the stunning Chutes de Kambadaga waterfall and stop off at iconic activist and musician ‘Mama Africa’ Mariam Makiba’s former home. Over the border in Guinea-Bissau, we will witness a traditional musical concert by the Malinke people and tour the city of Bissau, taking in its historic old town and frenetic fishing port and market. We’ll finish our tour with a boat trip to the Bissagos Islands, exploring the former Portuguese colonial capital that now sits abandoned on Bolama and the Idyllic beaches and surrounds of Bubaque by tuk tuk.
