In the morning there is the chance to relax around Sipopo where there are secluded beaches and an island connected by a boardwalk and teeming with birdlife.
In the afternoon we drive into the centre of Malabo and have several free hours to wander around the festival, which kicks off this weekend. Return transfer to the hotel in the evening.
In the morning we set off for a tour of the city of Malabo taking in both the colonial and modern sides of the city as well as heading up to Pico Basilé; the highest mountain in Equatorial Guinea. In the afternoon we head back to the festival site for more free time to wander around the area and photograph the intricately painted models! Return transfer to the hotel in the evening.
After breakfast we set off for the southern tip of Bioko where we will visit Ureka Beach. We will walk for 2 hours along the coastline and take in the fantastic views of waterfalls and rainforests creeping onto the beaches. We also visit the Bioko Biodiversity Protection Progamme camp where researchers and staff are present, protecting the turtles nesting sites along the beach. We will stay here overnight in shared tents.
In the morning we take a 2 hour walk back along the beach, before starting a tour all around Bioko Island; visiting both the scenic coastline and rainforest interior with it's colonial settlements. Return to our hotel in Sipopo in the late afternoon.
In the morning we transfer to the airport for our flight to Libreville (not included).
On arrival to Libreville we'll go for lunch before taking a short tour of the city. In the early evening we'll board the Trans-Gabon train to Lope.
Arrive in the early hours of the morning and transfer to our hotel where we will have a few hours sleep before travelling offroad to Mikongo.
We will stay deep into the rainforest in an abandoned scientific research centre. There is no running water or electricity here but this feels like a real African jungle experience.
We will take an afternoon trek to look for forest elephants and other wildlife. In the evening, the rangers will make us dinner before we settle down by the campfire.
In the morning we will set off to search for one of the families of Western Lowland Gorillas living in Lope National Park. The gorillas here are totally wild and not habituated so it's required to view the gorillas from a distance. In the late afternoon we return to Lope and take the overnight train back to Libreville.
Arrive into Libreville in the morning and head for breakfast before taking a tour of the city. Afternoon at leisure.
