Mongolia Adventure Tour

Wedged between Russia and China, Mongolia is uniquely different to its bordering neighbours. The country is vast with amazing landscapes of rugged mountains, the clear lakes and beautiful scenic views but also rich with culture and fascinating history of one of the most infamous founders of the Mongoli Empire.

Itinerary

  1. Day One

    Arrive into Ulaanbaatar

    • Arrive at Ulaanbaatar Airport. The driver will be waiting to transfer us to the hotel where we’ll spend the rest of the day at leisure.

    • Overnight in Ulaanbaatar.

  2. Day Two

    Tour of Ulaanbaatar

    • After breakfast, we will take a city tour exploring the sites of the capital. We’ll visit the Gandan Function Monastery with its huge golden Buddha, take a tour of the War Memorial at Zaisan and then visit the religious centre of Zanabazar.

    • Next, we will visit Bogd Kgaan Winter Palace and Sukhbaatar Square, the city’s main square, which features massive bronze statues of Chinggis Khaan.

    • Afterwards, we’ll have lunch in the city before visiting the National History Museum.

    • We will go out for dinner and enjoy a folklore performance in the evening.

    • Overnight in Ulaanbaatar.

  3. Day Three

    Six Camp Complex

    • After breakfast, we’ll check out of the hotel and meet the group in reception. Our driver will take us to see one of the largest statues in the world at the Chinggis Khaan statue complex.

    • Enjoy the sites and the vast natural landscape surrounding it before setting off for the 13th Century National Park where we can experience an authentic perspective on what life was like in Mongolia hundreds of years ago.

    • Here we will have lunch and take a tour of the 6 camp complex, including the infamous Relay Station. There will also be an opportunity to dress in traditional Mongolian attire if we wish!

    • In the evening we’ll head to our camp to relax for the evening, underneath the vast starry sky.

  4. Day Four

    Zurkhnii Khukh Nuur (Blue Lake)

    • In the morning we will drive to the protected and untouched Gun Galuut Nature Reserve, which has an impressively diverse ecosystem and is home to some of the world’s most endangered species.

    • We’ll explore and take in this vast and pristine Mongolian steppe as we drive towards Dadal Village, stopping at the beautiful Khar Zurkhnii Khukh Nuur (Blue Lake). It is thought that Chinggis Khan was crowned ruler here in 1206.

    • Afterwards, we will drive to Baldan Bereeven Monastery, which was built in 1777 and has housed thousands of Lamas over the centuries.

    • In the evening, we’ll rest, have dinner and camp overnight.

  5. Day Five

    Rashaan Khad

    • Today we will continue to Rashaan Khad; an archaeological site displaying an impressive array of ancient rock carvings and paintings.

    • From here, we will drive on to the ancient Uglugch Wall and the Shamanic site of Binder Ovoo, before finishing the day’s journey in Binder Sum where we will have dinner, relax and spend the night.

  6. Day Six

    Binder Sum

    • We’ll gather for breakfast at the camp before embarking on our first day of horse riding and sightseeing.  As there will be mixed abilities of riders, we take the pace slow and leisurely, so that we can enjoy the natural beauty of the Mongolian landscape. We will ride about 15km depending on everyone’s ability.

    • We’ll start riding around a nearby neighbourhood, located on the Onon River, where we will explore Binder Sum; a place of great importance in Mongolian history. It was here that in 1206, Temüjin, son of Yesugei, was elected Genghis Khan of a federation of tribes on the banks of the Onon River and is regarded as the beginning of the Mongol empire.

    • We’ll continue exploring on horseback along the river, before heading into the forest to our campsite.

  7. Day Seven

    Continue Horse Riding Adventure

    • After breakfast at the camp, we will continue our horseback adventure, exploring the majestic natural landscape and stopping for a relaxing packed lunch break at midday.

    • We’ll return to the campsite, enjoy dinner with the group and spend another night soaking in the peaceful atmosphere of the Mongolian natural landscape.

  8. Day Eight

    Ride to Dadal Village

    • Today will be a leisurely morning before we continue our horse trekking adventure over to Dadal village.

    • In the evening, we will have dinner and enjoy another night under the spectacular starry skies of Mongolia.

  9. Day Nine

    Deluun Boldog

    • On our last day of horse riding we will visit the Chinggis Khan Obelisk, which was built in 1962 to honour 800 years since his birth.

    • After, we visit Deluun Boldog; a monument that commemorates the location considered to be the birthplace of Chinggis Khan.

    • Next, we will ride over to Khajuu Bulag mineral spring, where we can drink the sacred and magical water that legend has it Chinggis Khan drank from!

    • We’ll then head back to the campsite for dinner and spend the evening at leisure.

  10. Day Ten

    Khunnu Khuduu Aral

    • In the morning we will head to the Mongolian Queen Complex at Bayan Adarga; an archaeological site containing more than 300 tombs from the Xiognu era.

    • Afterwards, we will drive to Khunnu Khuduu Aral, stopping for a packed lunch break en route.

    • Khunnu Khuduu is an important historical site which was thought to be the first political centre of the Mongolian Empire. This is also where the “Secret History of Mongols” was written in the 13th century. We’ll explore the sites and take in what is considered to be the most beautiful part of Mongolia.

    • In the evening, we will have dinner and relax together at the camp.

  11. Day Eleven

    Back to Ulaanbaatar

    • We’ll have a leisurely morning visiting further sites in the vicinity, including (if it’s open) a museum dedicated to archaeological excavations in the area.

    • In the afternoon, we will leave the campsite and drive back to Ulaanbaatar where we will spend the night in the hotel.

  12. Day Twelve

    Free Day

    • Today can be spent at leisure.

    • Overnight in hotel in Ulaanbaatar.

  13. Day Thirteen

    Head to Hovd

    • In the morning we will have breakfast before transferring to the airport for our flight to Hovd.

    • Hovd town was a trade centre located on the northern Silk Road with connections to Russia and China. In 1763 the Manchu administration built the fortress Sagijn Cherem and now all 18 Mongolian ethnic groups live in this province.

    • We will take a look around the town and will also meet “Hoomii-singers”!

    • We’ll spend the night in a small local hotel.

  14. Day Fourteen

    Tsamba-Garav Uul

    • Today, we will begin driving north where we will see the beautiful snow-capped peaks, rocky valleys and crystal clear spring waters.

    • We can also visit the nomadic Kazakh and Urianhai (one of the western Mongolian ethnic groups) families and experience their hospitalities. They live mostly on the north side of Tsamba-Garav Uul which is one of the highest snow-capped mountains in Mongolia at 4208m at a place called “TavanBelchir” or “Five Pastures”.

    • From there, we have the chance to hike close to the snow caps.

    • Next, we will continue driving to Olgii town. Here we will either spend the night in a small local hotel or tourist ger camp.

  15. Day Fifteen

    Altai Eagle Festival

    • Today we will have an early breakfast then head over to the Altai Eagle Festival!

    • Here we will meet the Kazakh Eagle hunters; the rodeo of eagle hunting. There will be a fantastic opportunity for photos and enthusiasts alike to see these magnificent birds up close. There are approximately 400 eagle hunters in Bayan-OlgiiAimag and eagle hunters from around nearby regions gather to test their finely trained birds in contests of speed and agility.

    • During the festival we also see some Kazakh traditional horse games like “BushKushi”, “kiss woman on horseback” and “pick up coins from the land on horseback”.

    • In the evening, we will enjoy a Kazakh Concert with traditional songs and music before heading to our hotel/ger camp to spend another night.

  16. Day Sixteen

    Back to Ulaanbaatar

    • After breakfast, we will drive to Olgii Airport to catch our flight back to Ulaanbaatar.

    • The afternoon can be spent at leisure before we head out for a farewell dinner in the capital.

    • Overnight at the hotel.

  17. Day Seventeen

    Tour Ends

    • Today is the last day of the tour. We will have breakfast before departing to the airport for our onward destinations.
