Once home to the great Mali Empire, this country still bears the mark of its deep history. Mali is the best place in the world to see traditional mud architecture. The capital Bamako is home to gorgeous colonial-era architecture and museums that display this country’s decorated past. And, of course, the far-away city of Timbuktu is found within Mali’s borders.
