South Sudan is the world’s newest country and one of Africa’s least visited. Gaining its independence from Sudan in 2011, the country’s short history has been steeped in civil conflict, but now the situation in most of the country is stable. Travellers now have the opportunity to explore the culture, history and natural wonders of this fledgling nation.
View South Sudan toursOur South Sudan tour begins in the capital, Juba. This small, vibrant city is home to the Konyo Konyo Market and Dr John Garang’s Mausoleum, the final resting place of the man who led South Sudan’s liberation. A journey north will take you into the heartland of the Mundari tribe, an agro-pastoralist people, with an economy centred around famous Ankole-Watusi cattle, identifiable by their massive horns. Time spent with the Mundari highlights a lifestyle increasingly lost to the modern world. The tour will also visit the Dinka tribe, known for their dramatic height – 82.6 cm (5 ft 11.9 in) on average. With lush, awe-inspiring scenery around every corner, a diverse tribal culture and a warm, friendly population ready to move on from the conflicts of the past, South Sudan is an unforgettable place to visit.
