Papua New Guinea Goroka Festival Tour

Our Papua New Guinea tour is focused on the Goroka Festival; a celebration with many tribes from across Papua New Guinea coming together.

Itinerary

  1. Day One

    Arrival in Port Moresby

    • Arrive to Port Moresby and transfer to our hotel.

    • This afternoon, we will take a tour of the city, visiting the market, parliament and the botanical gardens.

  2. Day Two

    Mount Hagen

    • This morning we will take a morning flight (not included) to Mount Hagen.

    • Once we arrive in Mount Hagen we will spend the afternoon taking a tour, including the vibrant market.

  3. Day Three

    Rondon Valley

    • After breakfast, we will take a tour of Rondon Valley where there will be the chance to spot birds of paradise.

    • Later, we will take a short hike into the rainforest where we will be able to see the breathtaking views overlooking Mount Hagen.

  4. Day Four

    Paiya show

    • After an early breakfast, we’ll journey to Paiya village for the Paiya show where we’ll be welcomed by the Chief and Wives in traditional attire. We will also explore the village, meet with the local people and take photos.

    • Afterwards, we will experience traditional cooking called “Mumu”, a local cuisine served on banana leaves.

    • Next, we will visit the small village museum to explore spirit gods, skeletons, tools and weapons which are believed to be over 100 years old.

  5. Day Five

    Goroka

    • Today we will head to Goroka, visiting coffee and tea plantations along the way, including a stopover at Mindima village to visit the skeleton tribe.

  6. Day Six

    Goroka Festival

    • Today is the beginning of the Goroka Festival! The festival brings together more than 80 tribes from across the Highlands and coastal PNG.

    • After the show, we will continue to Asaro village to visit Mudmen and experience local cooking.

  7. Day Seven

    Goroka Festival

    • After breakfast, we will head back to the Goroka Festival. The tribes continue to gather and put on dancing and music performances.

    • After the show, we will visit Kamaliki Village where local school children will put on a cultural performance.

  8. Day Eight

    Return to Port Moresby

    • Today we will return to Port Moresby (flight not included) where we will have a free afternoon.

  9. Day Nine

    Tour Ends

    • Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
