Tour itinerary can be seen below.
• Arrive at Lungi International Airport and take a boat across the Sierra Leone River to your hotel, where the group will meet.
• Take a tour of Freetown, including the famous cotton tree, the market, the war memorial and St George's cathedral.
• Travel to one of Sierra Leone’s most famous and unspoiled beaches: River Beach Number 2.
• Enjoy a day at this lovely beach, with options to take a boat cruise up the river and hike.
• Take the evening to relax on the beach with delicious fresh fish and cold beers.
• Take a boat ride to Banana Island. The island was initially inhabited by the Portuguese and later by freed slaves.
• Return to River Beach Number 2 in the late afternoon and take the rest of the day at leisure.
• Depart in the morning for Bo—the heart of Sierra Leone’s diamond mining industry. It’s also known as the ‘Manchester of Sierra Leone’ due to its music scene and nightlife.
• Arrive in Bo early afternoon, and take the rest of the day to wander around the city or relax in the hotel resort.
• Head to Tiwai Island Sanctuary. We will enjoy local meals prepared by community cooks. You’ll have time to take nature walks where you can hopefully spot red, black and white colobus monkeys. There is also the opportunity to take a river cruise around the island.
• Enjoy a wildlife walk around Tiwai before embarking for Liberia.
• Cross the border into Liberia and meet up with our new transport.
• Go to Robertsport, a city previously settled by African American freed slaves and later an Allied airbase in World War 2.
• Spend the morning around Robertsport taking a walking tour. We will visit churches, schools and the abandoned African Centre of Culture.
• Return to our accommodation for lunch before spending the afternoon leisurely or taking optional surf lessons.
• Travel to Liberia’s capital, Monrovia, where we will spend two nights.
• Take a walking tour of Monrovia. We will stop for lunch in the Embassy District before returning to our hotel in the late afternoon.
• Tour ends today. Leave for your flight home or continue your travels through West Africa.
