• Arrive into Caracas and transfer to the hotel for check-in.
• Rest of the day at leisure.
• Overnight in Caracas.
• Today we take a city tour of Caracas, visiting the historic downtown, 23 de Enero neighbourhood, Hugo Chavez’s Mausoleum and the San Agustin ‘barrio’.
• Overnight in Caracas.
• We take a morning flight to Canaima National Park.
• Embark on a river expedition to Angel Falls.
• Arrive at our camp which overlooks Angel Falls in time for dinner and sleep under the stars in hammocks.
• Overnight at camp.
• Today is a half-day hike to Angel Falls and take a swim at the bottom of the waterfall.
• Travel by boat to a camp near Canaima Lagoon which is administered by local indigenous Pemon people.
• Overnight at camp.
• Today we will hike to the top of a ‘tepui’, the flat top mountains that are famous in Canaima National Park.
• Later, we will visit the stunning Hacha Falls before returning to Canaima.
• Overnight at local guesthouse.
• This morning we return to Caracas.
• Next we will drive to Galipan, before visiting the Ghost Cable Car Station and Waraira Repano National Park.
• Overnight in Caracas.
• Today we head to El Vigia.
• We take a boat ride on Maracaibo Lake to visit the stilt-village of Ologa.
• Night in hammocks in Ologa to witness the Catatumbo lightning phenomenon.
• We have breakfast in Ologa and a short visit to local families living on stilt homes.
• Return to land by boat and travel south to Merida, the capital of the Venezuelan Andes.
• Enjoy the evening at leisure.
• Overnight in Merida.
• We first take a city tour of Merida.
• We will have the opportunity to take the longest cable car in the world. This costs $50 extra per person.
• Drive across the Andes to the town of Barinas.
• Overnight in Barinas.
• This morning we will depart early for the long drive north to the colonial Caribbean town of Choroni.
• Arrive in the late afternoon and enjoy your evening at leisure.
• Night in local guesthouse in Choroni.
• We will take a short boat ride to the village of Chuao to learn about Cocoa processing and Afro-Venezuelan culture. Famously in 2020, US mercenaries plotting a coup d’etat against the Venezuelan government were detained by fisherman in Chuao.
• Lunch by the beach before the boat ride back to Choroni.
• Return to Caracas for overnight stay.
• Today the tour ends. Transfer to the airport for onward travel.
Please note: Whilst everyone will receive their own hammock, they are set up in a shared area with the rest of the group.
